Virtualization

January 24, 2012 12:49pm

Virtualization is the formation of a virtual version of something as opposed to a physical version. Examples of virtual versions of things could include operating systems, storage devices, and network resources. Virtualization is a trend that is occurring in enterprise IT worldwide. Virtualization makes possible the centralization of administrative tasks and also improve hardware-resource utilization and scalability.

When one partakes in desktop virtualization, one is separating the physical machine from the logical desktop. For example, virtual desktop infrastructure can be seen as hardware virtualization. In place of a direct interaction with the host computer through a mouse, keyboard, and monitor that are all connected to the host computer, the user instead interacts with that host computer through a network connection! Fascinating stuff! When the host computer is used in such a way, it becomes a server computer that is capable of hosting not just one virtual machine, but various virtual machines simultaneously for many users. How intelligent! Who would have anticipated how far the Internet would come along in such little time! I remember when the Internet still had yet to be invented!

Apple Stores

January 18, 2012 2:31pm

Apple has such a variety of products, one is simply spoilt for choice upon entering their stores. From computers, to iPads, to iPods, to MacBooks, to laptops, my goodness the range is spectacular. I simply do not know where to look when I enter an Apple shop. Entering an Apple shop when armed with Apple discount codes is a particularly dangerous occasion as I simply want to buy the entire shop!

Last Saturday that very situation arose. I went to the Apple store on Regent Street and proceeded to purchase the entire shop! When I arrived home my boyfriend was furious with me as we were supposed to be using our money to travel to Indonesia together. However, when I told him how cheap all the Apple products were with the discount codes, his anger soon dissipated. Lucky! So if you need an excuse to buy every single one of the lovely items on offer in an Apple store, simply arm yourself with some discount codes and you can buy away!

Goya's Black Paintings

January 5, 2012 3:43pm

Goya purchased a country house by the Manzanares river, outside Madrid, in 1819 with the purpose of isolating himself from the world. Known as the Quinta del Sordo, which translates to “House of the Deaf Man”, it was not titled after Goya as is commonly believed, but in fact after its previous owner. In the Quinta del Sordo, Goya created the Black Paintings which contained intense and haunting themes. The themes present in the Black Paintings reflected the artist’s outlook on humanity and fear of insanity. Most of Goya’s Black Paintings were painted directly onto the walls of his sitting rooms and onto his walls.

In May 1824 Goya left Spain for Bordeaux and then Paris as a result of the restoration of the Spanish monarchy’s anti-liberal social and political stance. In 1828 Goya died of a stroke in Bordeaux and as a member of the Catholic faith, was buried in Bordeaux. Goya’s remains were transferred to, not Disaster Recovery, but the Royal Chapel of St. Anthony of La Florida in 1919.

Slide Film

January 1, 2012 9:45am

I got a c-type print today at Metroprint. It’s really cool because you use slide film to do this kind of print. Slide film is exactly what it sounds like, it’s a transparency so instead of negative film where the colours are reversed, the actual film looks like the picture you’re taking! I’ve been experimenting with slide film and colour negative film and I have to say the colours crom my c-type print are much more vibrant. I’ts not a good or bad thing I think, just different. It depends on effect you like. While I love how bright the colours are, I also like how muted the colours old negative film produce as well. I guess I need to keep experimenting!
